“I first came to work with Steve Hartfield and his team on another project for which we were both consultants – he the accounting and finance person and I the corporate governance person. What I saw there coming from his group was timely and accurate financial statements prepared monthly along with all payroll reports, tax reports and the ability to converse effectively at our board meetings. What I did not see at that time was all of his other attributes he could provide when I asked him to advise another company for which I was engaged with its accounting and outside auditor needs.
Well, let me tell you that I learned he was not just an accountant who had the ability to manage debits and credits on financial statements, but he was business articulate, accurate to a tee, capable of explaining company needed software applications and bringing those into the company, saving the company a substantial amount of money with his reasonable billings, advising the company on the outside auditors we had chosen (totally coincidently, he used to perform audit work at this same accounting firm), and teach newbies in the company how to account for receivables and payables. I also learned that he could dig deep to solve what appeared to be unsolvable problems with state and federal regulators in the timeliest manner.
The reason all of this works with Steve is his constant ability to take on every problem of accounting, finance and software applications with the calmness you would think would be coming from the best general in any military. Everything is solvable as far as he is concerned, even as the fires burn around you (and maybe a little around him). (Note: As an aside, he also is a jokester, as long as you can accept jokes coming from an accountant.)
